Thinning scissors VS Texturising scissors

One of the primary differences between thinning and texturising scissors is the tooth gap. The thinning scissors have more teeth than the texturising scissors. As already mentioned, there are around 30 to 45 teeth in the thinning scissors, and the texturising scissors have fewer teeth with wider gaps.

Thinning scissors are ideal for thick hair, and texturising shears are ideal for fine or medium hair. The former removes less bulk compared to texturising scissors. If you are looking to create lift or movement, the texturising scissor is the perfect tool. When you cut hair with it, the underlying layer effectively supports the uncut hair. To remove weight, use thinning scissors and to create movement, use texturising scissors.

Technically, yes. We’d steer you away from it. Over-thin a section and there’s no undoing it until it grows back, and it’s easy to leave patchy spots without training. Our range is built for hairdressers and barbers who use these daily and know how much to take out. If you’re after a home fix, a salon visit will save you more hair than it costs.
